I disagree because I feel that some people use online chatrooms to express themselves. Certain people cannot express themselves verbally, instead written. Some people feel more comfortable and secure talking and sharing things with other people, without having to reveal their identity. Therefore taking these advantages into account, online chatrooms should not be banned.
People are spending too much time wastelessly on unnecessary chatting. The time could be put to good use instead of idling around and talking nonsense. It is in the best interest of people that online chatrooms should be ban.We do not need a weapon of mass distraction that affects efficency of people. Imaging you are an employer, your employees are using Msn Messenger or Yahoo Messenger to chat while they are suppose to work. What will you do? encourage them to do that more often?
Obviously, you will think of a way to remove this creature of disruption before it creates more havoc than your company can handle.
Online chatroom kills people's time.
If you are a student using chatrooms to chat with your friends, suppose you get so engrossed in talking than you forgot your time and what you planned to do cannot be done, you will regret that you should have spent the time wisely. This vicious cycle will repeat again and again.
Some people over dependent on online chatrooms and become addicted to it. It is like taking a drug. They wasted their lives on online chatting. Thus, they spent less time socialising and became anti-social, do we want that to happen? So, Online chatrooms should be banned.
The advantage of online chatting is to have some fun. To have fun at such a price is as good as not having at all.
The cons outweight the pros of people having access to online chatrooms. In order to save ourselves from the mass weapon of distraction which affects our efficency and plans, online chatrooms must be banned at all costs.
First was ICQ and now MSN. Online chatting using ICQ is more dangerous than using MSN as we do not know who we are chatting with. But on MSN, we do know who the ones we are chatting with are. So other than idling around and talking nonsense, work can be discussed too.
Discussing of work like planning can be done efficiently online. We do not have to meet our group members or use phones to discuss and meeting of people can take up a lot of time. What if it is not only a group of 5 to 6? What if discussing of work includes the whole class? Wouldn't that takes even more time to meet up and wasting unnecessary time?
On the other hand, chatting online can be advantages for people who do not know how to express themselves in person. Online chatrooms may be more comfortable for them and may also enables themselves to express more. Hence, online chatrooms should not be banned.
Online chatroom should not be banned. It is the result of advanced technology, it allow human to communicate at any time anywhere as long as there is a computer and a wireless network. With this convenient technology, work can be done in a much efficient way. Things are discussed in a better way as online chatroom also allows multiple people to discuss issues at the same time.
I wish to address one of the points stated by kinyew.
He said that
"Some people over dependent on online chatrooms and become addicted to it. It is like taking a drug. They wasted their lives on online chatting. Thus, they spent less time socialising and became anti-social"
I don't agree to this. By chatting online with their friends or some stranger, it is consider as socialising. People can chat with a lot of people online and it is considered even more socialise than reality world. Sometimes in reality world, we only talk to a small circle of our friends, rarely expanding our social circle. In online chat room, people can express themselves better and therefore know more friends, thus, expanding their social circle.
With all these, how can u say that people that indulged in online chat room are anti-social?
By the way, isn't this blog a way of expressing our views online? Isn't it also considered as some kind of online chatroom? Isn't u who oppose online chatroom, is using it?
Therefore, i conclude that online chatroom should not be banned, however it must be put to good use instead of bad ones.
Sheery from DAC/1B/07 I agree with the statement, "Online chatroom should be banned." Firstly, online chatrooms do not allow one to know the other party he/she is talking to. In addition, there are guys who cajole girls into meeting up in reality and sometimes, girls fall prey to them monetary, sexually and emotionally.
Secondly, people may also be addicted to online chatroom and a lot of time will be wasted. In this case, for students who do not manage their time well, their grades will deprove. For working adults, overtime, they may not perform as well in their work.
However, I think that online chatrooms allow people to make friends and it may also be a form of relieving stress.
To conclude, I think that online chatrooms should be banned.
He said that "People can chat with a lot of people online and it is considered even more socialised than reality world."
You mean talking to people is socialising? When you socialise, you get to know more about the person. However, in online chatting, he or she may be pretend to someone who is a fake profile. You do not know the real identity of the person at all.But if you go out and socialise with people, you tend to know and learn more about the person through observation.By sitting in front of the computer, that is not socialising at all.
Another thing is that blogs are not online chatrooms.
I do not oppose online chatrooms but because there are more negative consequences than positive aspects, online chatrooms should be ban.
The online chatrooms that should be banned are those commercial chatrooms like ICQ and MIRC which has a lot of sexual predators lurking in it.
Why not MSN?Yahoo?Because they are much safer and more useful than those harmful online chatrooms. (as shown from Sijing 's view)
Another reason why online chatrooms should be banned because there is phishing of information. Sometimes, a cookie can be send to you and collect all of your data and send back to the person who send you the cookie.
I am sorry, but Kinyew, it seems to me that you are confused about the whole idea of a chatroom and whether banning it or not.
In the previous post u stated all the reasons that online chatroom should be banned and you only mention the advantage of chatroom is to have some fun. The idea of it allowing discussion of work is not even mention.
In your previous post, you also treat all chatrooms as a whole, you did not think of msn or yahoo at all at all. However you mention msn and yahoo in ur 2nd post.
Therefore, i can see that you only realise the importance of online chatroom eg. msn when you read at sijing's post.
Furthermore, your points discussed in your 2nd post contradict the points in your 1st post as u suddenly said that u do not oppose online chatroom in your 2nd post. U said that you do not oppose it, s o what makes you agree that only some online chatroom should be banned?
All these seems to me that you have not fully understand the question and researching. Your 1st post and 2nd post differ and is of different point of view.
Therefore, What gives you the right to oppose me without fully understanding the issue?
Lastly, socialising is equal to speaking to others, whether it is by the means of face to face or online. Even face to face, people can also be cheated.
Therefore, my point cannot be refute and online chatroom should not be banned.
I agree that online chatrooms like ICQ should be banned.
This kind of chatrooms are dangerous are you do not know who you are talking to. Girls especially are in danger as the person you are talking to may have bad motives.
However, chatrooms such as MSN messenger where you only talk to people whom you know should not be banned. This is a chatroom where friends communicate with each other whenever you are. This would help to maintain freindships.
Thus, I agree that online chatrooms like ICQ should be banned.
I must admit seriously that I overlooked the fact that I did not realised that the fact MSN and Yahoo Messenger as considered as online chatrooms. I assumed that online chatrooms refers to those Mass Internet Relay Chat(MIRC).
Since you insist those are online chatrooms, I shall reassemble my arguement.
It seems that you have some misconceptions about the statements I made.
The stand I take is clear, I do support the ban of online chatrooms. What you quoted was "Furthermore, your points discussed in your 2nd post contradict the points in your 1st post as u suddenly said that u do not oppose online chatroom in your 2nd post. U said that you do not oppose it, s o what makes you agree that only some online chatroom should be banned?" while my post was "The cons outweight the pros of people having access to online chatrooms. In order to save ourselves from the mass weapon of distraction which affects our efficency and plans, online chatrooms must be banned at all costs." and "I do not oppose online chatrooms but because there are more negative consequences than positive aspects, online chatrooms should be ban."
You did not understand what I stated. The reasons why I oppose is that online chatrooms is that they brings more disadvantages than advantages. I merely state that IF there are more adavantages than disadvantages of online chatrooms,I would not support the ban of online chatrooms.
(quote from Qiming) All these seems to me that you have not fully understand the question and researching. Your 1st post and 2nd post differ and is of different point of view.
Therefore, What gives you the right to oppose me without fully understanding the issue?
Lastly, socialising is equal to speaking to others, whether it is by the means of face to face or online. Even face to face, people can also be cheated.
I disagreed with you.As mentioned above , my stand that online chatrooms should be banned remain constant.
You insisted that I totally do not understand fully the issue thus I have no right to argue against you.But what I wish to ask, so are you acting so noble that you say that I am so high and mighty, I know more things than you, so you shall submitted to me, persecuted those that you think that are ignorant, for they have no use to me. Is this right? Also, people have different perspectives of thinking, are you saying that people who looked from other angles are wrong and ignorant?
By using ad hoc to attack me does not really impressed me nor the readers. You did not address some of the points I made.
So if online chatrooms causes more harms than goods, shall we still allow it? I presumed that your answer is yes.So you encourage people to abuse chatrooms? One broken window will leads to many broken windows in the building. Allowing sexual predators to lurk in cyberspace and online chatrooms is a danger to the society and young girls.By giving them the key to access young and innocent girls, isn't this a indirect way of encouraging them to prey on the girls.
So sitting in computer is your definition of socialising? Since you prefer so much to your so called "socialise" in the online chatroom, maybe you should keep yourself stick to the monitor and not go out and socialise with people.By doing this, you can have many friends even from other countries. If that is the case , people who hold HR(human resources) positon can get sack and we do not even need sales services. All we can do is using the computer and online chatrooms. Is this what you are implying?
From Sijing's post ,she said that MSN messenger can be use to do work. However , there are some points I like to mention, supposely a group of people going online to do work, however their good intentions was that instead of talking about work, they do other personal stuffs like chit chatting, instead this is a waste of precious time.
If people do not know how to use online chatrooms efficently, why must we grant them access? Online chatrooms always have been known for sexual predators. For the new age,Like MSN and Yahoo messenger, employees have been known for loafing, wasting precious company time.Imaging the number of man-hour wasted, making the companies losing how much money. For students, instead of using it as a work tool, they spent time chitchatting with their friends, girlfriends and boyfriends respectively.Have you ever encounter people who say that they are going to do work, which later they come out and say they regrets wasting time in uneccessary activites.Perhaps they might say openly, but deep in the heart they will know. Do you dare to say truthfully that you are not one of them?
Since people do not know how to use online chatrooms efficently, they should not have the luxury of using it. Using something which they do not how to control is akin to controling some bots that turned on their masters like in Terminator series movies.
Furthermore, it makes no plausible sense to allow something which brings more harm than good to our lives. Thus, online chatroom should be banned.
I disagree that online chatrooms should be banned. The reason because i feel that chatting online act as a source of communication for people in your social circle or cliques, your own country and even for people to communication with each other overseas.
I agree with Faizah that not everybody can express their feelings verbally well as compared to writing it down. For example, to share my own problems is so difficult to say it face to face but to type it out it's much more better. At least i have the courage to do so. Moreover, we can just type and the message can be conveyed almost immediately even if the distance if far away like overseas.
Therefore, i disagree that online chatrooms should be banned.

I'm in the favour of people who disagree that chatroom should be ban.I stand together with Faizah that it is a place where some are given an opportunity to express themselve in the chatroom.Without such places made available for them, where else can they express they hard felt feelings. Some of you may suggest friends, family or anyone they know of but what if he or she doesn't want to share with someone they know .Feels it better to tell someone they don't know as the advise from a stranger are more sincere as they don't know you and don't might saying hurting things that others you know would try to avoid telling you.
However there is always reasons for some of us to agree that chatroom should be ban due to the dangers in online chatroom and other reasons stated by the rest. When such thing occur self-discipline is being tested as it is ultimately you how spend too much time on the chatroom rather than other important stuff you should do or you who give you particulars to strangers and end up being disturb by these strangers.
I agree to the point of view of most people here, that online chatrooms such as ICQ should be banned.
Firstly, ICQ is quite dangerous as one will not know who he/she is talking to. Many people fake their identities in such areas. They want to create a whole new image for themselves. Some want to act cool because in reality, some are not daring enough to open themselves out to people.
Secondly, there were many reports of the danger of ICQ previously. Girls got into some danger after meeting a guy online. Without knowing who he is, they decided to meet up. And later accidents happened.
Therefore, in order to prevent such cases from happening again, ICQ should be banned.
Hmmm. I agree with Kin Yew on his strong points on why online chat rooms should be banned. However my stand is that online chat rooms should not be banned, but the usage should be controlled. However I felt that there were points in his argument that were biased, and should be re-addressed. Since you said you have rearranged your points, I will only refer to the last comment that you have made.
Firstly, instead of being ambiguous about what is a chat room, I should define in my comment that chat rooms as mentioned, mIRC, Msn Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AOL, ICQ. Through my essay, I would refer the word chat room to these examples.
The chat room can be said to be a ‘weapon of mass distraction’, because it distracts from doing work, studying or doing effective things. I believe that work will be done with chat rooms in existence if they have self-discipline. If the person doesn’t have self-discipline, even if there are not chat rooms, he still will not be able to do work.
Are there not other ‘weapons of mass distractions’ around? Even if chat rooms don’t exist, there will always be other forms of distractions around. Computer games, Internet browsers, there are plenty of distractions that the computer will have. Even if you throw away their computer, and give them an old fashioned typewriter, there still will be distractions. Talking to colleagues, for example, looking outside the window, or even daydreaming. Ultimately the one at fault is the person, not the chat room. Exercising self-discipline would be the way to cure it.
Socializing is another issue that was brought up. It would be downright incorrect of you to say ‘should keep ourselves stick to the monitor’. People socialize by talking, by writing letters, by telephone calling. Conversing in chat rooms is just another way of socializing. Can people not use more than one way or socializing? Does that mean that if I usually call my friends on the telephone, I should stick the telephone to my ear?
Chatting is just another convenient way to socialize at home. With the internet at our fingertips, we can communicate with our friends, our colleagues, or even business clients at home, or at any place with an internet connection. When we go to school, or to work, we socialize by talking. We have mobile phones and telephones, we socialize calling people. We write letter and emails to distant kin, and we wait eagerly for their reply.
The benefit of having an online chat room in a sense that the receiver receives his message almost immediately, something like a speed SMS. Replies come in an instant, and get sent out almost immediately. People can hold online discussions, send announcements, entertain clients, and even teach, with chat rooms. Moreover, chat rooms are free of charge; you only have to pay for the internet bills.
And it may just be a yes to the question of sacking people due to the usage of chat rooms. We are slowly advancing to an age where internet connects people. We start having blogshops, and online shopping, you can even buy your groceries online now. Even the monetary transactions are made online. Soon, a lot of jobs will be lost due to the internet. When people have online supermarkets, they no longer need many sales people or human resource people.
The danger of ‘cyber predators’ or digital criminals is a constant threat and the danger will always be there. Not only in chat rooms do you find people who have phishing programs. Many websites also have phishing program embedded into their web pages. Online rapist and people who lure young people will always be there, whether or they choose their method of attacking through chat rooms.
Even if we were to ban chat rooms, they will still find ways to do it. The more important issue is the gullibility of the teenagers, and we can teach youngsters to be more net smart, so that they will not fall prey to such people.
We can make friends from all the different countries and of different race, religion and culture. The friends we make online, although not all the time, will become real and true friends someday. To have connections with different people is a direct advantage over our peers, and it is possible to have a fast career because of connections. I have also known many couples that are together, or have gotten married, that met through online chat rooms. It is not proven that their relationships are all the time successful, my point is to explain that your social circle can expand through online chat rooms.
Not everyone’s form of enjoyment, relaxing, and hobby is the same. Not everyone plays sports, computer games or read when they want to relax. Different people have different views to enjoyment. Some people might chat for fun, and if we ban chat rooms these people lose their hobbies, their form of relaxing.
Before you rush in to say that the cons of having a chat room out weigh the pros of having one, you must consider also of the pros and cons of not having a chat room. Having thrown out the harsh facts of having a chat room, you fail to mention about how life would be without chat rooms.
People who want to communicate to each other would have to send SMSes, or write letters, or call each other on the phone. People who live far away would now have to send emails, or write each other letters. In all these situations we waste time and in some cases, money as well. Chat rooms also allow us to use the computer for other reasons and chat simultaneously.
As what Faizah mentioned, people need room to express themselves and one of the ways would be through chat rooms. People discuss among themselves over various issues, and do work, research interviews through chat rooms. Without chat rooms, there is much inconvenience, and much of the things that we can actually save time with will no longer be possible.
Yes, there are dangers with chat rooms, no doubt, but banning chat rooms is not a feasible way to solve it. I take a neutral stand here, Online chat rooms should not be banned, but the usage should be controlled.
I also strongly disagree that online chatrooms should be banned. I agree with Faizah and Chuzen.
Online chatrooms is a form of communications. It can help us communicate with different types of people around us. In this way, we get to know their culture and their personality. Online chatrooms can help us communicate with people around us and even overseas. This can help us to broaden our network as we chat with them. It can also help us broaden our knowledge as there are some things which we do not know. We can call this a cultures exchange! Don’t you think so? Some people may say that it is dangerous as you do not know who that person is or what motive do that particular person has, but all you need to do is to be very careful and don’t follow what that person ask you to do.
As we know that some people are very shy to communicate in front of another person, online chatrooms is the best for them to communicate and express themselves.
Online chatrooms have its usefulness as they serve as means of communicating and meeting new friends. They are also ideal places for people to speak out, especially for the shy ones. Also, it is convenient for discussion.
Rebuttals may state that online chatrooms are danger zones where people get cheated as they do not even know the person whom they are talking to. However, even in the real world, there are also people who cheat. Why should online chatrooms be banned just because of some who abuse it?
I admit that a lot of us may chat for too long till we lose the precious time for important stuff, yet there are also people who know how to manage their time and the right time to stop. It all depends on the user.
I feel that online chatrooms should not be banned as it is a place where people can talk freely and even let out their unhappiness. I believe that most of us will know our limits and to stop at the right time. It should not be banned just because of those who misuse the chatrooms.
I do not think online chatrooms should be banned although it poses a certain danger for its entire user.
But this all this depends totally on the users themselves, they should know what should be done or not be done so as to protect themselves from all this dangers.
Online chatrooms serve as a source of communication.
It is a good place where we can communicate with our relative or friends who is overseas. As we do not see them often we get to understand them better through occasional chats.
It is also a place for people to express themselves as mentioned by faizah earlier on, we can just share what we feel and think openly with other people.
For students, it would be more convenient if we discuss our projects online rather than wasting your time outside travelling and deciding on the place to do our work. It gets things done more efficiently and less-time consuming.
First one is where everyone meets everyone like MIRC. These kind of chatrooms should be banned as we do not know who are we talking to. People using these chatrooms tend to fake their identity and there are reports on this kind of people that cheat other people money using the credit card number etc.
The second kind of chatroom is like MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger etc. This kind is where you can add family and friends and chat with them. Since you control who you chat with, this is safer and thus it need not be banned.
The only reason I can think of on why online chatrooms should be banned is because of lurking sexual predators and conmen. But why ban the chatrooms when they can be used instead by law enforcers to catch the evil doers?
These criminals have their cards placed close to their chest. They can simply lie and have their way if the victims are not careful enough.
However, these victims ARE the ones that choose to believe in what they say. They are the ones that will learn not to trust a total stranger that easily, but how does it affect other people?
Online chatrooms are also used for communications such as talking to a family member in a different timezone, doing business with a webcam attached, discussing homework etc. All of these means better efficiency and less money spent in terms of phone bills.
Besides, one has to consider the fact on how will the government succeed in closing down all available chatrooms? The knowledge to build a website can be easily obtained and one can create an illegal chatroom with few people knowing about its exsistance.
Therefore, I think its ridiculous to ban online chatrooms.
Online chatrooms allows us to make friends from around the globe. Meetings could be done on chatrooms and time spent travelling to meet up is saved. Businesses and students can complete their tasks more effectively and efficiently. Disadvantages of chatrooms would be online predators, but the government are doing their best and have been teaching us on how to avoid these online predators. Therefore i feel that online chatroom should not be banned.
I disagree that online chatroom should be ban.the reason why most people use online chatroom like msn is that it actually help save phone or sms bill.online chatroom also allow people to express themselves freely without face to face. the typing process allow people to think twice before saying something to the other party, thus it is a good way of communicaion.
Sometime we make friend that live in other country or has migrated. taking to them in phone is costly but with online chatroom, we can chat as long as we want anytime. online chatroom also act as a place for people to express their own view and feeling. they don't have to be worried or shy about anything as long as we don't reveal any confidential thing.
online chatroom allows us to enlarge our cicle of friend and share thing together easily.another reason why most people use online chatroom is to kill time by chatting with different people the whole day.
online chatroom allow messageo be sent around quickly and it also allow group conference. even if you wan to avoid talking to certain people, you can always choose to appear offline.
Of course there are always flaw. online chatroom is the place where many villian chooseto target innocent people, thus it is up to the user to be vigiliant and alert at all time.
i disagree with the above comment. On what basis was this topic made.Online chatrooms are dangerous only if you make them. One should be responsible and not give personal information to strangers. If one chats responsibly, there should be no reason to ban online chatrooms as there is no harm to users.
Chat rooms are used as a form of communication in the world.
It takes two parties to start a conversation. It can be either someone we know or not. We usually chat with another party to voice out problems, make more friends and share problems.
Not all prefer counselling to be held verbally. Instead there are other alternative such as chat rooms. Counselling may not only be between a cousellor. It may also between friends. Thus, these people will share their problems through chat rooms, where they can voice out each and every matter that upsets them. One of the reasons they chat online is because they do not want to embarrass themselves by crying in front of other people.
Chat room is not a disadvantage. In fact, there are lots of advantages. Besides those mention above, chat rooms are free. Maybe, electricity bill but it is worth that bill. Not only do our lives made more convenient but also to make us express ourselves rather than keeping everything to oneself.
Therefore, I conclude that chat rooms should not be banned as there are a lot of advantages. It is something worth having in life.
Firstly, I feel that online chatroom is a place for people to chat and make friends. It is these chatroom that people are allow to widen their circles of friends. Therefore it is benefiting people.
Secondly, I feel that some people are not good in expressing themselves verbally, however, they are able to express themselves well through writing or typing. These may help them to release stress. They are able to find people to "talk" to.
These are all the pros of having online chatroom, therefore i disagree that online chatroom should be banned.
I totally disagree with the statement. Why should online chatting be banned? Online chatting is where people meet strangers and make friends with them. Not all strangers are bad. When you are feeling lonely, online chatting is one of the solution to pass time. Thus i feel that i should not be banned.

I don't agree to this.
By chatting online with their friends or some stranger, it is consider as socialising.

I wish to refute some of points from
Qiming.
He said that "People can chat with a lot of people online and it is considered even more socialised than reality world."
You mean talking to people is socialising? When you socialise,
you get to know more about the person. However, in online chatting,
he or she may be pretend to someone

that is not socialising at all.
Another thing is that blogs are
not online chatrooms.
I do not oppose online chatrooms but because there are more negative
consequences than positive aspects,
online chatrooms should be ban.
The online chatrooms that should be
banned are those commercial chatrooms like ICQ and MIRC which
has a lot of sexual predators lurking in it.
Why not MSN?Yahoo?Because they are
much safer and more useful than those harmful online chatrooms.
(as shown from Sijing 's view)
Another reason why online chatrooms
should be banned because there is
phishing of information. Sometimes,
a cookie can be send to you and
collect all of your data and send
back to the person who send you
the cookie.
That is why online chatrooms should be banned.
Qiming from DCP/1A/27
I am sorry, but Kinyew, it seems to me that you are confused about the whole idea of a chatroom and whether banning it or not.
In the previous post u stated all the reasons that online chatroom should be banned and you only mention the advantage of chatroom is to have some fun. The idea of it allowing discussion of work is not even mention.
In your previous post, you also treat all chatrooms as a whole, you did not
think of msn or yahoo at all at all.
Rui Zhen from DAC/1B/07:
I agree that online chatrooms like ICQ should be banned.
This kind of chatrooms are dangerous are you do not know who you are talking to. Girls especially are in danger as the person you are talking to may have bad motives.
However, chatrooms such as MSN messenger where you only talk to people whom you know should not be banned. This is a chatroom where friends communicate with each other whenever you are. This would help to maintain freindships.
Thus, I agree that online chatrooms like ICQ should be banned.
Kin Yew from DCP 1A 27:
I must admit seriously that I overlooked the fact that I did not realised that the fact MSN
and Yahoo Messenger as considered
as online chatrooms. I assumed that online chatrooms refers to those Mass Internet Relay Chat(MIRC).
Since you insist those are online
chatrooms, I shall reassemble my
arguement.
It seems that you have some
misconceptions about the statements
I made.
In order to save ourselves from the mass weapon of distraction which affects our efficency and plans, online chatrooms must be banned at all costs." and "I do not oppose online chatrooms but because there are more negative
consequences than positive aspects,
online chatrooms should be ban."
You did not understand what I stated. The reasons why I oppose is that online chatrooms is that they
brings more disadvantages than advantages. I merely state that IF
there are more adavantages than disadvantages of online chatrooms,I would not support the ban of online chatrooms.
Kin Yew from DCP 1A 27:
(quote from Qiming)
All these seems to me that you have not fully understand the question and researching. Your 1st post and 2nd post differ and is of different point of view.

I disagreed with you.As mentioned
above , my stand that online chatrooms should be banned remain constant.
You insisted that I totally do not
understand fully the issue
thus I have no right to argue against you.But what I wish to ask,
so are you acting so noble that you
say that I am so high and mighty, I
know more things than you, so you
shall submitted to me, persecuted those that you think that are ignorant, for they have no use to me. Is this right? Also, people have different perspectives of thinking, are you saying that people who looked from other angles
are wrong and ignorant?
By using ad hoc to attack me does not really impressed me nor the readers. You did not address some of the points I made.
So if online chatrooms causes more harms than goods, shall we still allow it? I presumed that your answer is yes.So you encourage people to abuse chatrooms? One
broken window will leads to many
broken windows in the building.
Allowing sexual predators to lurk
in cyberspace and online chatrooms
is a danger to the society and young girls.By giving them the key
to access young and innocent girls,
isn't this a indirect way of
encouraging them to prey on the girls.
So sitting in computer is your definition of socialising? Since you prefer so much to your so
called "socialise" in the online
chatroom, maybe you should keep
yourself stick to the monitor and
not go out and socialise with people.By doing this, you can have
many friends even from other countries. If that is the case ,
people who hold HR(human resources)
positon can get sack and we do not
even need sales services. All we can do is using the computer and
online chatrooms. Is this what you
are implying?
From Sijing's post ,she said that MSN messenger can be use to do work. However , there are some points I like to mention, supposely
a group of people going online to do work, however their good intentions was that instead of talking about work, they do other personal stuffs like chit chatting,
instead this is a waste of precious
time.
If people do not know how to use
online chatrooms efficently, why must we grant them access? Online chatrooms always have been known
for sexual predators. For the new age,Like MSN and Yahoo messenger,
employees have been known for loafing, wasting precious company
time.Imaging the number of man-hour
wasted, making the companies losing how much money. For students, instead of using it as a work tool,
they spent time chitchatting with their friends, girlfriends and boyfriends respectively.Have you ever encounter people who say that
they are going to do work, which later they come out and say they
regrets wasting time in uneccessary
activites.Perhaps they might say openly, but deep in the heart they will know. Do you dare to say truthfully that you are not one of them?
Since people do not know how to use online chatrooms efficently,
they should not have the luxury of using it. Using something which they do not how to control is akin to controling some bots that turned on their masters like in
Terminator series movies.
Furthermore, it makes no plausible
sense to allow something which brings more harm than good to our
lives. Thus, online chatroom should be banned.
ChuZen DCP 1A 27:
I disagree that online chatrooms should be banned. The reason because i feel that chatting online act as a source of communication for people in your social circle or cliques, your own country and even for people to communication with each other overseas.
I agree with Faizah that not everybody can express their feelings verbally well as compared to writing it down.
For example, to share my own problems is so difficult to say it face to face but to type it out it's much more better. At least i have the courage to do so.
Moreover, we can just type and the message can be conveyed almost immediately even if the distance if far away like overseas.
Therefore, i disagree that online chatrooms should be banned.

Khatijah from DAC/1B/07
Nicholas from DCP/1A/27:
Mui Hoon DCP 1A 27
I also strongly disagree that online chatrooms should be banned.
Thus, online chatrooms should not be banned!
Hui Yan from DAC/1B/07:
I disagree with the above statement.
Leanna DCP 1A 27
I do not think online chatrooms should be banned although it poses a certain danger for its entire user.
So i think online chatrooms should not be banned!
There are two kinds of chatrooms.
Lim Hui Shuen DCP1A27
Wei Liang from DCP/1A/27
The only reason I can think of on why online chatrooms should be banned is because of lurking sexual predators and conmen.
JOHN NGIAM DMR 1B/01
Of course there are always flaw. online chatroom is the place where many villian chooseto target innocent people, thus it is up to the user to be vigiliant and alert at all time.
pravin from dmr 1b/01
i disagree with the above comment. On what basis was this topic made.Online chatrooms are dangerous only if you make them. One should be responsible and not give personal information to strangers. If one chats responsibly, there should be no reason to ban online chatrooms as there is no harm to users.
Faizah from DCP 1A 27:
I disagree.
Kelvin DMR 1B/01
I disagree to the statement.
Saifullah from 1B/01
I totally disagree with the statement. Why should online chatting be banned? Online chatting is where people meet strangers and make friends with them. Not all strangers are bad. When you are feeling lonely, online chatting is one of the solution to pass time. Thus i feel that i should not be banned.
