I agree. This is because they knew that sex is not for underage people. Singapore is an "open" country. In this modern world we are living in, even young kids know the meaning of puberty and sex. It is something common. They should know that it should not be done but they still do it. Therefore, i believe that they only have themselves to blame for their actions.
I disagree. Where I believe that the law for underage sex was placed to for the reduction of underage pregnancy, both parties are to be blamed for the pregnancy of the young teenager. Pushing responsibility of the child is a simple job. Abortion is also a simple idea. Taking responsibility for your girlfriend's child is difficult. Raising the child up is your responsibility as well. Whilst Having sex bears you a child, a girl cannot bear a child alone, just like one hand cannot clap. Thus I feel that the guy in the relationship should take up responsibility as well.
I agree. It's the girls own responsibility to take care of themselves. They should have self-respect not to have sex with guys when they are under aged. By doing so, not only the chance of pregnancy gets higher, the guys are also being implicated. What's more is that most of these girls gave themselves to guys. Which guy doesn't want 'free' girls? These girls have no self respect and integrity, therefore its their own responsibility when they gets pregnant.
I disagree. Both of them should be responsible. How would a girl get pregnant if she stops the guy's demand of having sex with her? How would a girl get pregnant if the guy stops the girl's demand of having sex with him? Both of them know the consequences and if stop each others, this will not happen. The child in the girl's stomach is made by both of them and not just the girl alone, so isn't it unfair for the girl to take responsibility alone and suffer alone?
If they girl is to take the responsibility alone, then, isn't it means that all guys can throw the responsibility to the girl after having sex and after causing pregnancy to the girl? If this is the case that isn’t the girl like a prostitute?
Although the Singapore Government had laws to protect underaged girls. The blame cannot be totally on the girls themselves. Singapore had a law that anyone has sex with a girl under 16 will be punished , this will deter some of the predators from preying on young, innocent and underaged girls. The Singapore Government had done its best to protect the girls. Also, sex education had been provided.
It takes two hands to clap and in this situation is the same. The girl who gets into a chatroom, talks to a guy who pretends to be a young teenager but actually is a 'wolf' out to eat unsuspecting victims. The girl meets up with the guy and was convinced to go to his flat. All of a sudden, he forced himself on her and she became pregnant. Who to blame? The girl or th man? Both.

In today , having relationship in secondary school is very common between boy and girl. One day, the boy and girl went to her home to study. This was in good intention, somehow her parents were not in. He told the girl,'if you love me, you must have sex with me and everyone is doing it.'The young underaged girl succumbed to pressure and ended up in pregnant a few weeks later.Who is to blame?
Through logical reasons, it is both parties are responsible for this act. If the girl is smart or knows what is important , she would not get herself in the situation of be alone with a guy. Similarly, if the guy control his temptation, nothing would have happened.
If both parties have practise restraint and responsiblity, such a situation will never exists. Thus, underaged girls and the other parties involved should be blame.
Sheery from DAC/1B/07 I agree to a large extent to this statement.
"Underaged girls who get pregnant only have themselves to blame." I agree with this statement only if the girl is willing to have sex and it is not forced upon her. Since the girl is willing, she should be responsible for her own actions and therefore, can only blame it upon herself. If she is unwilling to have sex with her partner, she can also convey the message to her partner and make it known to him.
However, if sex is forced upon the girl, in other words, she is raped, I do not think that the girl should be blamed. In a situation like this, the male should be responsible.
I agree to certain extent to this statement.Singapore education system has put in sex education to educate youngster about sex. With adequate knowledge, the girl should have known better the consequences of having sex at a young age whether it is protected or unprotected sex.In such cases where the guy ask for sex and the girl know that young pregnancy might just ruin her life, she could just say no. However in some situation i believe it takes 2 hands to clap.If the guy ask and the girl comply,in my opinion both are to take resposobility for the consequences of this action.
firstly, it takes both hands to clap.the girl cant get pregnant without the boy's sperms and without the female's egg. secondly, in school we are taught sex education and how we can have sex in a safer way. thus if the two of them really want to have sex they should actually use prevention methods.it is always better safe than sorry.both the boy and the girl are taught how to have safe sex or even say no to sex.abstain from the evil temptation is always the better option.
however the girls are also partly to be blame as they should calculate the menstrual cycle even before thinking to having sex.
in conclusion, i disagree that girls are to be blame as sex is a two way traffic.both the boy's sperm and the girl's egg is needed.the boy cannot shave off his responsibility and throwing away the baby since the baby is also this own flash and blood.
When underaged girls get pregnant i think they they have to be responsible for their own actions. They knew of the consequence and so only have themselves to blame. Althought we have laws to prevent underaged sex there are still girls getting pregnant at a very young age. Who can they blame but themselves.
i disagree to the following statement. I strongly believe that both parties should bear the responsibility and not just put all the blame on the girl.Wouldn't it be unfair to the girl. And if the guy would thought that he wouldn't be blame for what he had done then he would still continue his irresponsible actions. Therefore i feel that both the girl and guy should face the consiqences together.
Government have already make efforts in trying to solve this situation of underage girls as young as 9 years old gettting pregnant.
Nowadays, primary school students are now educated on this matter. Talks on puberty and sex were implemented. This will not only get the students or the child a better idea of this matter but also know the consequences of having underage sex.
Therefore, after telling, showing them the results of this situation, they still did it. They are just adding burden to themselves. The guy, yes, must be responsible for the unborn child in the womb, but they are not to be blamed.
I am sure everyone are born with a brain to think. True, each one of us have desires. However, we should learn to control them. Thus, when they go against what they are not suppose to, they have only themselves to blame.
My supervisor once told me "Always blame ourselves before others".
Therefore, I agree that underaged girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame.
The government has already implied the law that those who have sex with underage girls would face certain consequences. This will prevent the girls from being violated by the guys. Schools and parents have done their part by educating us what is right and wrong.
But it is up to the girls have to play their own parts to prevent underage pregnancy from happening on them. This is because they already know what are the consequences of underage pregnancy.
So, girls should have their own stand to say 'NO' when the guys suggested having sex. A girl can avoid being alone with a guy if she thinks she cannot defend herself from the guy.
Therefore, it is clearly the responsibility of girls as an individual. It is our life and our decision whether we want to remain a virgin till we are seriously involved with someone or ready to get married.
I agree to a large extent that these girls have only themselves to blame. They themselves should know that virginity is important to them and not misusing their virginity as and when they like.
True enough, by giving themselves to their boyfriends, they may think that they can secure their boyfriends by their side. Or when their boyfriends ask for it, if they do not give in, they may lose their boyfriends. Indeed, girls who think like that are really naïve and foolish. I believe that a guy who truly loves his girlfriend will respect her for who she is.
Thus, if a girl gets pregnant in the end, I believe she only has herself to blame because the decision lies in herself whether to get involved with her boyfriend. As much as she loves her boyfriend and wants to give in to him, she should know of the consequences. Furthermore, from young, the teachers in schools have been giving Sex Education lessons to the students, teaching them about keeping their virginity till marriage, the consequences of having sex etc. Thus, the students should understand thoroughly the dos and do nots. In the end, if the girl really gets herself pregnant, she should be reprimanding herself instead for making such a rashful decision.
I agree with Sheery’s point of view that if the girls were to be raped by other people, this is not their fault as usually violence takes place as well and it is difficult for girls to retaliate especially since girls are weaker compared to guys.
I agree to a certain extent that underaged girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame.
Sex education is provided in school to educate the youngster. Hence, they should have some knowledge about sex intercourse. There are also news about unwanted pregnacy, which mostly involved underaged girls. With those informations, the girls are still willing to have sex with a guy, they only have themselves to blame.
On the other hand, the guys are responsible too. After considering that the girls might get pregnant, and they might not be able to support the girls fincianlly, they still have sex with them. Hence, they have to be partly responsible for the pregnacy of the underaged girls.
In conclusion, both the guys and the girls are responsible when the girl get pregnant.
These girls have been punished by the law, bear the burden of carrying a unborn child and humiliated, I think its very unfair to say that they have only themselves to blame.
The girls are the victims and they should not carry any blame. It should be the guys that carry the blame. They give the pressure to have sex and walk away when the girl is pregnant. This is clearly a insult on the girls that they are only meant to please guys through sex.
Girls, if you are forced to have sex, please strongly refuse. If you are abuse, call the police.
And for these underaged pregnant girls, we should show more understanding and not shunned them away.
I agree that "Underage girls who get pregnant only have themselves to blame." Since, the girls are willing to, they have to take up the responsibility. Underage girls can choose to have sex with other parties, they can say 'No', but they choose to do it.
In primary and secondary schools, students are thought on sex education. With this sex education talk, they should know more knowledge and consequences of having sex. When underage girls get pregnant they should not say that they do not know such things will happen, but in fact, their education in school have thought them all about sex.
Therefore, I agree that they should bear all the consequences and they only have themselves to blame.
I agree with the statement that underage girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame.
With proper and adequate education on sex, girls should know the consequences of having sex. I believe that if a guy loves the girl, he won’t force her to have sex with him. Even though he did, the girl has the right to say NO since girls are protected by the government. And also, if the girl gives themselves to the guys just because of they are afraid that the guy would ditch them, I think that it’s the girls who are the silly ones.
Therefore, underage girls have only themselves to blame when they are pregnant.
Why should the girls be blamed for getting pregnant? I strongly think that the guy is partly responsible for the act. The guys is also at fault for have sex with the girls in the first place.
When a law is set up to prevent underage pregnancy, i am certain that underage girls would not knowingly commit the crime without being demanded to do so. The guys then come into the picture. The guys would then demand the girls to do more and more while the girls would just give in for “love”. This eventually leads to them having sex. The guy will only start pushing away his responsibility when the girl is pregnant. The two parties will be of cause too young to make decisions.
Abortion will come in. The girl will be the only one suffering while the guy, as expected, will try to ditch the girl. I feel that consequence of having a child should not be bear by the girl alone. It should be endured by the guy too, not just the girls.
Girls should be blamed for being careless and allowing the guys to make love to them. they are the willing party to have sex. If the girls abstains from sex, her boyfriend or who ever would also have no choice to abstain from sex or find another willing partner. These underaged pregnant girls should already know the outcome if they had underaged sex and were to get pregnant. But still, they take the risk and they only have themselves to blame for allowing such a thing to happen.
David from DAC/1b/07 I agree with this statement to some extent. Despite knowing the dire consequences they may face for having underage sex, they still went ahead and do it. however , i agree with sheery that we should not blame them if they are forced upon having sex but the male party instead.
I believe that both parties should take responsibility of their act. As we all know it takes two hands to clap. The girl can always say no if she knows the consequences of underage sex.
It is both parties that wanted to make love. If the girl does not agree to it, it will never happen. So i totally disagree to it.
The guy should also hold responsibility. Both guy and girl must be involved in making love. So it is not who should take responsibility as both must be taking the responsibility of what they have done.
I agree with this statement, "Underaged girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame."
This is a personal responsibility, you should be responsible for your own actions. Before doing it, you have the chance to stop or refuse it and if you do not do that, you have yourself to blame. You should think twice before doing it. I do not think that is both parties are responsible, as the girl can refuse it. From secondary school onwards, the girls and the boys are taught that premarital sex will cause a lot of problems. If they insist on it, they have themselves to blame.
I disagree with the statement "Underaged girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame."
There are two scenarios that underage girls can get pregnant.
First, both parties are willing and that they don't have proper protection. If this results in the girl getting pregnant, why must be the blame be on her and not both the guy and the girl? It's common knowledge that it takes a guy and a girl to bring a life into this world and not a solo act by the girl.
The second scenario is that the girl is raped and the girl gets pregnant. If the girl was unwilling, should she get all the blame just because she was unfortunate to be at the wrong place at the wrong time?
i agree with the above statement. If the girl did not agree to having sex in the first place , getting pregnant could have been avoided.they have to take responsibility of their own actions
Girls should know the consequences of having sex with the other party. No one will force them to do it unless they agree to do so. However if the guy really force her to do it with him, that’s called raping. I believed that it is the girl’s responsibility to protect herself. As we know that when they are young, they are very curious about such thing. Thus, they will tend to do such thing so as to clear their doubt. Therefore, schools will arrange talks to the student about the consequences of having sex. Since they are willing to do it, the girl has to be responsible.
On the other hand, I feel that guys should be responsible too. Since he wanted to do it with that particular girl, he should be responsible with his action and not run away from it.
To conclude, both parties should be responsible for their own actions.
I agree. Girls should be responsible to not have sex. They have total control on whether they should have sex or not. No one will be able to force them if they have a firm mindset to not have sex. If her boyfriend pressure her to engage in sexual activities, she should have the self-respect and discipline to reject him. She should know that a healthy boy-girl relationship does not revolve around sex. If the boyfriend is true to her, he will also respect her decision to not have sex. However if the girl has to consent to her boyfriend for fear of losing him, she will be irresponsible for her act. This type of unhealthy relationships will not last as the other party only wants to have sex instead of true love. Thus girls are responsible to be discipline and reject such unhealthy relationships.
I disagree! Both parties are to be blame or maybe only the guys depends on the situation. It will be really unfair if we put all the blame on the girls. Having sex involves both parties. One cannot do it alone.
Whether is the boy who wants to have sex or the girl, both have the right to reject. That's why both parties are to be blame if the girl gets pregnant.
If the senerio has been changed to a raping case for the girl or maybe a very young girl who does not know anything about sex, then it will be only the guy who is at fault. This is because the girl does not have any chance to reject.
I think that both the guy and the girl should be blame. It takes both a male and a female to have a successful intercourse which produce a baby just like it takes two hands to clap. One bears thier own responsibility for deciding to have sex. Both parties can choose to reject and state thier stand, not just the girl. There are cases whereby the girl is raped. If that is the case, is the girl to be blamed still?
Therefore I strongly disagree that underage girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame.
I agree with the statement. Sex education are taught in schools and teenagers are taught to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy; that is, to abstain from sex before marriage.
Since the girl was a willing party, she should be responsible for her actions, since she already know the consequences of unwanted pregnancy. Therefore, she must protect herself and not just give in to the guy just because he demands for sex. If she really gets pregnant, she only have herself to blame.
Instead of finding fault, i feel that deciding on a solution would be more appropriate. Recently, there are a incresing number of cases where unwanted babies were left unattended resulting in the loss of an innocent life. Both parties should be equally responsible and face the consequences together. Avoiding would not solve but instead aggravate the problem. The government could also help by conducting classes on how to deal with unwanted pregnancies.
i feel that both parties should be blamed. like many have said, it takes both hands to clap. there is no reason to blame only one of the parties..
nowadays, schools have been giving sex education to the teenagers. everyone should know the consequences of underage sex and understand why one should not do it..
if the girl is pregnant, she should be blamed! but together with the boy! thus, both parties should bear the consequences together and not push the blame to one another.
in a different case like the girl being raped, then obviously the boy should be blamed. he is so stingy to find prostitutes that he began to rape underage girls...
Firstly, I think underage people are in the age of pullulating, sex is not good for them. If they get pregnant, they will mach dispute. Although the laws do not forbid them, they will have them to blame.
Secondly, I think underage girls get pregnant is not all their responsibility, their parents and the boy all are to be blame. Parents should educate their daughter well; the boy also should know the sex well and although they decide to do that, they should make sure they all are safe and the girl will not get pregnant because they are underage.
Based on fallacious judgement that ‘Underage girls who pregnant have only themselves to blame’, which is extreme biased against the factual truth. These people often elude the responsibility of man.
In scientific definition, ‘pregnancy’ is impossible to occur without the sperms from man and ovary from the woman. Hence, how could we gauge based on the girls’ pregnancy? In addition, we might even miss out the underage victims who are being rape and have to shoulder all pains and insults by themselves. Are they supposed to be blame in these circumstances?
Moreover, our society plays a vital role as our country’s economic booming and we are more exposing to the ‘outside world’. These proposed an “open” society; welcome in the western culture which influence our youngster to follow their trend. Western culture might even manipulate our young by portraits as ‘No sex, No cool’. Without any doubt, the young’s nature character must be up-to-date to their trend. Eventually, this had become another source which leads to increase pre-marital sex and underage pregnancy.
More speculative, peers pressure might be one of the sources. In school, the ubiquity of young couples, emphasized and convinced the young to be in a relationship. Logically, they will feel the urge to ‘break-free’ from their abnormal norm. Subsequently, these young couples are more prone to sexual-intimation and leading to unwanted pregnancy.
On the contrary, girls in actual are able to prevent such unwanted pregnancy which rejected their boyfriend. But, these could displease their boyfriend and jeopardised their relationship. So by saying ‘No!’ becomes difficult decision for them. Others might be feeling that this is an unacceptable explanation. But, in exchange of position, are we able to think rationally at that moment?
In conclusion, underage girls should not be shouldering all the blames. As being underage pregnant women, they are also suffering from physically torture with pregnancy symptoms and pressurize mentally by others. Although, they are unable to shove off all responsibility, but neither should they bear all the blames. This is unfair. The man who involves should also be responsible. A clap will not occur without two hands which mean both parties are responsible.
When you flipped through a newspaper, you’ll see that most of the time it is not the girls’ fault that they got pregnant. They’re just innocent girls that were being raped by other people or even their own relatives! This happens because under aged girls are normally no stronger than those people, considered as ‘rapists’ and they are usually being ‘fooled’ by those ‘rapists’ to take drugs and become weak and useless. We can’t really blame those under aged girls for getting pregnant as this is not what they asked for. Justice must be done to those ‘rapists’ and precautions must be carried out so that less under aged girls will get into such ‘trapped’.
Underaged girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame. I disagree to this statement. when both parties agree to have sex, they themseleves should have know what is the consequences. singapore is well known for is law enforcement and having sex underage may end up in jail. both parties should also know that having to raise a child is a heavy responsibility. this is all taught in school even as young as primary and seconday school.
Even if both parties have made preparation by wearing condom, they should have know that accient do happen and why did they sill take the risk. Having one night of sex is easy, but having to raise a child for the rest of your life is not.
in conclusion, both parties should be blamed and held responsibility. the girl is willing to have sex with the boy and did not resist. the boy continue his mistake and did nothing.even if both parties held responsibiliy, hey are sill underage and jobless. those with job are usually low paying. there is nowway they could themselves raise a child providing proper education and a good environment. critisim will also arouse and bother the child parent, resulting in stress. there are alot of problem when underage girl get pregant so both parties should be blamed andheld responsible.
I agree. Ministry of Education has implemented sex education in secondary schools and students have been taught about the consequences of engaging in sexual intercourse. By this, female teenagers was given a clear idea about the consequences having sex. Consequences are such as STDs and the the resposibilities to be taken when the child is born. It takes both the male and the female to agree with one another to have sex. Despite knowing about the consequences, why should the girl agree to have sex with the guy, even though the guy who wanted to have sex? Isn't that obvious that if the girl who get pregnant have only herself to blame.
How if the girl was forced to have sex with the guy. I think life is importent then pregnancy.
And in any situation, the parents of the girl should be blamed. Because they haven't give enough education to their daughter eirther abuot the sex or protecting themselves.
we can not give the blame to these pregnant girls.Actually,Society and parents and the boys who let the girls pregnant should take some responsibility.
society, especially the schools should give students more education of sex. Beacause singapore is an open country, underage guys have sex.Since society can not prevent sex of guys,it should tell guys how to avoid pregnancy.Parants should do mre communication with their children ,and tell them sex should not be done unless adult.the boys who let the girls pregnancy should know how to avoid pregnancy of girls.
I do not agree. I feel that parents, school and the boy involved are to be blamed as well.
Girls should have a clear concept of the consequences of having underaged sex, such as pregnancy before marriage, sexually transmitted diseases and the lawsuits that follow. It is the responsibility of parents and the school to teach the underaged girls such consequences.
In addition, the boy should make it a point to know the age of the girl before going ahead with the sex. Knowing that she is underaged and yet ignoring this knowledge is unforgivable. Parents and schools should also teach boys that the penalty for having sex with an underaged girl is caning, in order to warn them.
Granted, the girl involved should take some blame as well, but being underaged, parents ought to take the largest responsibility for their ignorance or lack of discipline.

Zheng Heng from DCP 1A 27
I disagree with the statement.
Ying Hui from DCP 1A 27
I agree that "Underage girls who get pregnant only have themselves to blame." Since, the girls are willing to, they have to take up the responsibility.
Si Jing from DCP/1A/27
I agree with the statement that underage girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame.
I disagree.
Joel from DMR 1B01
i agree.
David from DAC/1b/07
I agree with this statement to some extent.
Despite knowing the dire consequences they may face for having underage sex, they still went ahead and do it.
however , i agree with sheery that we should not blame them if they are forced upon having sex but the male party instead.
I disagree.
Choon kiat from DCP 1A 27
I agree with this statement, "Underaged girls who get pregnant have only themselves to blame."
Lim Hui Shuen DCP1A27
pravin from dmr1b/01
i agree with the above statement. If the girl did not agree to having sex in the first place , getting pregnant could have been avoided.they have to take responsibility of their own actions
Mui Hoon DCP 1A 27
I agree the above sentence to certain extend.
To conclude, both parties should be responsible for their own actions.
chun hian from dac/1b/07
Jia Jun DMR 1B01
I disagree.
DMR/1B/01
I can not agree absolutely.
Dephne from DMR/1B/01
I disagree to a large extent.
Nuanqin DCP 1A27
I disagree.
JOHN NGIAM DMR 1B/01
Saifullah from DMR 1B/01
Yutao from DMR/1B/01
I disagree.
How if the girl was forced to have sex with the guy. I think life is importent then pregnancy.
And in any situation, the parents of the girl should be blamed. Because they haven't give enough education to their daughter eirther abuot the sex or protecting themselves.
wang shunlai from DMR/1B/01
I disagree
we can not give the blame to these pregnant girls.Actually,Society and parents and the boys who let the girls pregnant should take some responsibility.
society, especially the schools should give students more education of sex.
Tan Jia Hui from DMR1B01
