Let us define what is dysfunctional family.A dysfunctional family is a family in which conflict, misbehavior and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur continually, leading other members to accommodate such actions.
Research from child psychologists and social workers had shown that children from dysfunctional families are really the victims who become violent due to exposure from violence.
Children born in dysfunctional families do not experience love, care and concern. They are instead shower with abuse, hatred and extreme violence by their parents and their older sibling. With no one to teach them the right way to behave, the children began to think that using violence to solve problem is the right way. This is why these children become bullies in school to avenge themselves and to repress the guilt in them. When they grow up, they will use violence on their children. This vicious cycle will be repeated again and again.
However,no one is immune from violence. Newspaper everyday carries news about violence.People asking questions about how a kind man going berserk kill every member of his family before killing himself.Games that promotes violence like Manhunt or GTA(grand auto theft)have some crazy fans copying the characters in the game, resulting in a shootout, killing inocennt bystanders. So, people are prone to violence.
Prone to violence does not mean that people will commit violence acts all the time. Violence can be counter with genuine love, care and concern. Many exposures and encounters with violence will lead to one prone of violence.
As children from dysfunctional families are exposed to violence all the time, they will be more prone to violence than anyone esle.
I beg to differ. I disagree with this issue and kin yew's comment.
There's children growing up in families brought up by single parent can also behave well like a child who lives in a perfect family (with a father and mother).
How a child behaves, is how their parents teach them. So if single parents do bring their child up properly, the child can be better-behaved than the child in perfect families.
In families, with both the father and the mother present, one of them may even neglect the child due to their time spent more on their work. This may leads to the child thinking that his mum/dad does not care about him.
As compared to perfect families, the single parent would give more love to their child(ren). The time spent on their child would be more. Having more time to spend with them, the parent can teach them the right things more at the right time.
Also, not all children from dysfunctional families are exposed to violence all the time. As i mentioned above, how a child behaves, is how their parents brought them up.
Therefore, i disagree that children from dysfunctional families are prone to violence.
"children from dysfunctional families are prone to violence"
I disagree with this sentence.
It might be true to a small extent that kids from dysfunctional families are more prone to violence, as their background heightens their exposure to street gangs or more tend to use violence to solve things.
However, not only kids from dysfunctional families, kids that are in normal functional families are also prone to violence via media or peers.
Improvements of ICT(information and communication technology) have exposed all children to media violence tremendously. All kids, regardless of their background, are exposed to violence daily through media such as gaming, tv shows. Some of these promote violence. 1 example is the wrestling show that is quite popular a few years ago. Children in normal families would also be exposed to it.
So how can we discriminate children in dysfunctional families and say that they are more prone to violence due to their background?
In schools, if the children mix with the wrong company which talks about fights everyday and get into it often, they will be also be expose to violence. And again, these children might not be from dysfunctional families.
Therefore, i oppose the idea about children in dysfunctional families are more prone to violence.
I disagree that children from dysfunctional families are prone to violence.
Although there might be a higher possibility that they are prone to violence because they lack the love care and concern which normal families shower their children with. But it does not mean that they are more prone to it.
Due to the advanced in technologies, anyone can be exposed to violence, when we are on the net or while we are watching television or even the friends which we mixed with. There are many sources which children can be exposed to.
Furthermore, there are children who are living in normal families who are more violence than those living in dysfunctional families. Simply because their parents are too busy with their work and have neglect their children causing them to resort to violence to seek the attention of their busy parents. And there are also children from dysfunctional who are more obedient then those of normal families.
Firstly, communication. Due to lack of communication between family members, children tend to communicate more with friends. The child will feel more secure being with friends rather than their own parents as time was spent more to friends. When this happens, the child will start to become rebellious towards parents; which might also lead to violence.
Secondly, abuse. There are many types of abuse such as physical or sexual abuse.
Physical abuse. Children were beaten up by their parents when they were still young. This might lead to revenge when they get older. Bloodshed might occur intentional or unintentionally.
Sexual abuse. They were force to go through sex at such a young age in which the child has to live with the thought of the moment the child was abused. Violence might occur as they would do it to other people.
Another factor would be that the dysfunctional family have inappropriate roles. Quoted by David Kaplan, PhD, "Parents are supposed to be parents, and children are supposed to be children". This means that parents should not add burden to their child by confiding all their problems to them. Due to this unfair situation, the child will be more depressed and more prone to violence.
In conclusion, i believe that children from dysfunctional families tend to be more prone to violence than normal family relations.
Children from dysfunctional family are usually facing major conflicts between their parents or even being abused. All these incident let them feel that they are not love and concern by anybody which made them feel insecure towards the society. Therefore violences is the only solution they can come up to protect themselves since they feel that they have no one to turn to.
Moreover these children are more prone towards violence may be because of the prolong abuses from their parents which may lead them to some physiological setbacks. Hence making them more violence.
However not all children form dysfunctional family are prone to violence. Some would feel very unsafe when being expose to the society, having thoughts that everyone is going to bully them. And after some time, unless this problems is solved, these children might even end their lives to cure these "pains".
I refer to kin yew’s research that children from dysfunctional families mostly turned out to be violence in nature when they grow up.
Firstly, the children were instilled with violence brought by the abuses of the parents. Conflict involves the inadequate love and concern provided by the parents. These problems between the parent and child often arise to a rebellious nature against the parents.
Secondly, Advancement of the media further aid in building young minds that is already corrupted. Media such as video games further encourage violence activity being performed. These acts can result in killing or fighting of the child who assume that they are the characters in the game so they can do whatever they want.
Lastly, because of the young “education” they go through, they feel that it is right to be treated that way. Being brought up this way, they will inevitably resort to violence. Thus, fighting appeared to be the “right” thing to do when they cannot see the solution.
That is why children from dysfunctional families are more prone to violence than anyone else.
Secondly, it really depends on the child's character. How much are they being exposed to such violence and how much do they absorbed and learn from these violence.
Not all children from dysfunctional families are violent. Some yes, some maybe, some no.
Frankly speaking, children can be easily influence. Not only by their families, like what Qi Ming said that media can be another source of influence of violence on them.
Bottomline, it is quite true that children from dysfunctional families are better in their studies than proper families children because they do not want to end up like their parents.
I disagree that children from dysfunctional families are more prone to violence. It all depends on the character and mindset of the individual child like what suzanna said. The child can choose to follow after the family members' footstep and resort to violence. Alternatively, the child can also choose to strive to be better than their violent family members and be a better, well-tempered person. The child has his or her own choice and decision. He can choose to give up his life, follow fate, and continue in his family member's bad ways. He can also decide for himself to be different from his family and be a well-mannered, temperament man.
Because of the dysfunction, most children are prone to violence, but some children become introverted. They just can not communicate with others, but they are not prone.
In a dysfunction family, the childe may not have a person to tell his feeling, difficulty, or something makes him difficulty to communicate with others. And he will feel lonely and become more and more introverted.
The children who are introverted are not prone to violence. Contrarily they get away from the violence even get away from people. The people around them make them feel unease and they drop the choice to communicate with others.
These children need someone to communicate with them. Communication can make them less lonely, and can change their thought. So the people around them are very important, and as parents, they are the main factor.
I agree. It's true that children from dysfunctional falilies are more prone to violence. One of my friends who went to Orphanage to do CIP found that most of the childrens there were violent. They robbed other's objects which they liked. And even fought those they didn't like.
I consider that lack of love, care and felicitous education maked them that.
Firstly, a dysfunctional can't give the child proper love. The dysfunctional love just can make the child's character abnormality.
Secondly, the parents in dysfunctional don't care the child enough, so they can't realize the genuine thoughts of their child. And give the child proper education. Lack of education makes child violent.
So I agree that" children from dysfunctional families are more prone to violence".
I do not agree with this statement, because it is obviously stereotyping.
As defined by an encyclopedia online [http://www.reference.com/search?q=dysfunctional%20family], a dysfunctional family is a family in which conflict, misbehavior and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur continually, leading other members to accommodate such actions. Children sometimes grow up in such families with the understanding that such an arrangement is normal. Dysfunctional families are most often a result of the alcoholism, substance abuse, or other addictions of parents, parents' untreated mental illnesses/defects or personality disorders, or the parents emulating their own dysfunctional parents and dysfunctional family experiences.
Granted, children from dysfunctional families may have a higher possibility of being exposed to more violence as compared to children from happy families. However, it does not mean that they will take after their abusive parent(s) and become violent people.
Instead of turning violent, having a violent childhood can have a reverse effect. It can cause the children to grow up abhorring violence. Since they have already sent the worse side of violence, they may not want to subject their own kids to the horrors of violence.
In addition, children may not only learn violence at the hands of abusive parents. In the IT-savvy society today, online games and movies can also be a source of violence for children.
Therefore, it is wrong to say that children from dysfunctional families are more prone to violence.
'Children from dysfunctional families are MORE prone to violence'.
‘Not all children from dysfunctional families are exposed to violence all the times’. It is agreeable though. This is not to pin point on ALL children from dysfunctional families whereas ONLY the majority.
As Sijing mentioned; compared to perfect families, the single parent would give more love to their child (ren). The time spent on their child would be more. Having more time to spend with them, the parent can teach them the right things more at the right time.
Indeed, I disagree to her statement because if it is a single parent. In contrary, she had overturn her reasoning, single parent spend ‘more times’ for their child (ren) which is extreme impossible. As a single parent, they are more likely to strive in to work harder so that in capable to support their child (ren) and provide a better life.
Hence, single parents are unlikely to spend more times on their kids. In fact, they are more often feeling that materials can satisfy, replace their love and times. With neglecting, the kids are trying so hard to fill up their heart emptiness. Ultimately, there are more possibilities in joining the ‘black sheep’. These ‘unhealthy’ cliques mostly think that using violence to conquer all obstacles is considered as a symbol of resilient. This is to overcome their phobia, either loneliness or being bully by others.
Therefore, in this case these children are more prone to such influences.
Some guys from dysfuctional families are prone to voilence ,because they are lack of love ,care and concern of their parents.which will cause them inner imbalance and have psychological hatred.they think the society is unfair for them.they will retaliate society and present more and more violence.
In order to the healthy growth of the children, parents should consider each other and give the children a good family environment.
parents should concern the psychological growth of children and avoid the bad case in family. A good family environment can make children healthy growth.
